Warm weather is when things really start swinging here at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland. June has been a busy month for all of our club members, and we can’t wait for more fun activities in July.

Exciting Summer Activities

June has been a busy time because we have a lot of new members and many of our programs are in full swing. We are thrilled to bring back Judo and a coding mini-camp this summer. We’re also excited about our new Boxing program, our new Club Read, and the many swimming opportunities we have!

Basketball Clinic

The MOC-Floyd Valley basketball team came to our Club on June 9th and put on a fun and informative Basketball Clinic for our younger Club members.  Everyone had a great time, improved their basketball skills, and learned how to work as a team and be good sports. Basketball is a great sport that improves coordination and communication.

United Way’s Kids Day of Action

We joined in the fun during United Way’s Kids Day of Action at the Y on June 15th. This year, United Way focused on summer learning and nutrition. In many communities, kids fall behind in school and go hungry during the summer month.

Flag Day

Clubs members had a blast crafting a large flag on our fence for Flag Day. We plan to continue working on it throughout the rest of June, and keep it on display all summer.

Peanut Day

On June 17th, many awesome club members gave up their Saturday morning to volunteer in Peanut Day, the annual Kiwanis Club fundraiser. The kids had fun interacting with the community as they passed out peanuts and asked for donations. Every year, the money that is raised goes to support children’s organizations in town—like the Club!

Drum Circle with Sioux City Symphony Orchestra

Ryan Haskins (Music Director & Conductor) and Darin Wadley (Principal Timpanist) of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra taught drumming techniques to a group of Club members at the Orpheum Theatre on June 20th. The club members had a blast participating in a drum circle on stage. We can’t tank Ryan, Darin, and the whole Sioux City Symphony Orchestra organization enough for arranging such a unique educational and fun experience for our kids.

Club Hours

Club is closed July 3rd and 4th for the holiday.
