Thank you to everyone who attended our events and supported the Boys Club in 2013!! It’s because of you that we are able to provide safe havens and life-enhancing opportunities for our community’s children and teens.
Thanks to your support, the Boys Club of Sioux City is open every day after school and year-round, engaging our youth in effective programs and activities that keep them focused on staying in school… giving back to our community… and staying on a path toward a great future.
A Week of Holiday Celebrations! December 16th kicked off a week of holiday fun prior to the winter break. Monday was gift-making in Arts and Crafts followed by a line-up of activities including a carnival with prizes, Holiday Olympics, Gold Rush and closing out the week with a pizza party and movies in the Wilson Theater.
Power Hour Party! Power Hour is an engaging homework help and tutoring program that encourages Club members at every age to become self-directed learners. When a boy attends Power Hour they receive participation points that can be used to purchase snacks, games & school supplies at the Power Hour Party.
Club Tech aims to make technology accessible and fun. Kids learn how to be safe online and learn about software, hardware and networking skills. New this month is Game Tech, an introduction to video game development and Robo-tech, where Members build and program a robot that interacts with its environment. The boys have also had fun making their own movies in iMovie. Click here to view a Boys Club Movie Makers sample! (Email firstname.lastname@example.org to see more movies.)
Triple Play is a dynamic wellness program that demonstrates how eating right, keeping fit and forming positive relationships add up to a healthy lifestyle. This season the Boys are enjoying wrestling camp on Tuesdays and Thursdays and over 100 high school students are participating in the Marvin E. Barryhill Basketball League on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Fine Arts is a year-round program that encourages artistic expression through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture. We recently hosted a six week session of classes taught by local landscaper and artist Joe Coughlin.
