Each time we sit down to put the blog together, it feels like we only just sent out the last one. Time flies when you are running fundraisers, celebrating county fair ribbons, hosting Lego contests, playing football—oh, and having fun!
We’d like to start out by sending a huge THANK YOU to all who came out and supported the Club during our annual Steak Dinner fundraiser. Another special thank you goes to T bar B Horses, Puppies, and More for donating an adorable yellow lab puppy that was auctioned off and sold to some very lucky bidders. We’re so glad Mother Nature was so well-behaved; we couldn’t have asked for better weather, a better turnout, or a better time. Let’s do it again next year!
Bring on the Legos!
For our last Lego contest of the summer, our status as a popular “Pokemon Go” site inspired many a Lego build. In fact, because Legos are a favorite activity for Club kids all year round, we always make sure to allow for plenty of build time for all of our members. Playing with Legos develops lateral and 3-dimensional thinking, problem-solving, organizing, and planning skills as well as encouraging creative thinking and improving communication as the kids build projects together. The best part is they just think they’re having fun!
Over 20 years ago, we were the fortunate recipient of a generous donation of a foundation set of Lego bricks and engineering Legos. Those same bricks have given hundreds of kids endless hours of brain-developing fun—and they keep giving. If you are looking for a way to give back to your local youth, please consider donating new or gently used Lego kits and bricks (especially the robotic and engineering Legos). We promise your donation will build more than just Pikachu; it will build relationships, imaginations, and strong, bright futures.
Great News from the Dakota County Fair!
Star and Sky, sisters and Club members, won big at the Dakota County Fair this year. They each received ribbons for their arts & crafts pieces, most of them Blue Ribbons, and most of them were projects created here at the Club this summer!
Operation Helpful Smiles Gives Back
Thank you to Hy-Vee and the Siouxland community for your support and generous donations in the Operation Helpful Smiles effort. We truly appreciate your donation of $1,358.32! We are proud to be surrounded by such generous, thoughtful, and helpful people.
Bus Fundraiser Update
For 79 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland has been helping children in the Sioux City area, picking them up from school and giving them a safe place to continue to learn, build relationships, and play. The past few years have seen increased need and enrollment; we currently have more than 750 members and only two vans to help get them to our Club facility.
Frankly, we need a bigger bus.
With your help and fundraising efforts, we can purchase a bus that will not only make pickups more efficient, but also allow up to 50 more kids access our safe and healthy services each day. This is a community endeavor that needs community support, and it’s a fundraiser that will accept small change to help make a bigger one. When every child matters, every penny does, too. Will you help us? Click here to donate.
