It’s hard to find anything to dislike about Octobers; the kids have found their rhythm with school, the weather is fantastic, sports are in full swing, and there are so many great things going on at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland. Our school year average attendance is higher than it has ever been, and we’re only two months into the year. We’re also happy to report that over 30% of our membership is girls, which is amazing considering our recent reopening and rebranding. We are proud to be a source of friendship, belonging, volunteerism, and education for ALL of Siouxland’s children. Now is a great time to join in on the fun if you haven’t already!

Halloween Haunted House and Carnival

A huge thank you to the Kohl’s employees who scared up an amazing event by volunteering time and energy to help set up, run, and clean up our annual Haunted House and Mini Carnival. The only thing scarier than the event was how fun it was for all involved.

Our Career Exploration Field Trip Takes Flight

On Friday, September 30th, our club members participated in a career exploration field trip to the 185th Air Refueling Unit. While we were there, we enjoyed an in-depth tour of what it takes to keep planes flying. The kids were amazed at what can be accomplished when people work together, and they had an amazing time during the experience. Thank you, 185th Air Refueling Unit, for all you do for our Club and our country.

Game Time For Flag Football

Thanks to the efforts of two Morningside students, some of our flag football members, their families, and some of our staff were able to attend the Morningside versus Briar Cliff football game. We met for a “tailgate” lunch beforehand and had a great time supporting our local college teams. Congrats on a great season, players!

Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland volunteered at the Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast in October. From helping guests with their plates to cleaning up, our members showed how little actions make a big difference.

Get Excited For Our Winter Sports Programs.

Our 7th-grade basketball league has started, so keep an eye out for game schedules. Contact Coach Mike through the Club, if interested in joining – space is limited. (more information will be on hand at the club).

We’re also pleased to announce that Judo has started at the Club.  Local Judo expert, Jason Allen, is teaching members how to train the body and the mind so that they can create balance and discipline within themselves. Plus, our members think it looks really cool. Lots of our kids have expressed excitement about this new opportunity. Please call the office for more details.

Torch Club Has Begun.

A big THANK YOU to the volunteers from Morningside College who have adopted our Torch Club. They are currently helping our 9 to 13-year-olds learn about leadership and community service.

The Wheels On The Bus Are Turning.

We’ve made some impressive progress on our Bus Fundraiser, and we still need your help! Our new bus will help us reach more kids at more schools, and this means more of Siouxland’s kids will gain a greater understanding of community service, teamwork, creativity, and friendship. If you believe in a greater future for Siouxland, you believe in this bus. Every donation matters.
