They say time flies when you’re having fun, and here we are, just one blink later, and our summer program is already over. I guess that’s what happens when you double enrollment (girl power!) and pack each day full of fun activities. To name a few:
- Our First Tee Golf Program had a group of six Club members meet every Tuesday to learn golf basics, good character, and leadership skills.
- During Shark Week, we dissected a shark to learn about shark anatomy as well as how they are different and similar to humans. We also learned the important role sharks play in the ocean environment
- Jedi Camp was a huge hit with 5 full days of droid building, meditation, Yoda yoga, saber training, blaster training, Jedi boot camp training, face your fears temple challenge, and making a light saber to take home!
- Plus field trips, water park excursions, Lego builds, community service events, and more.
Luckily, as one series of programs ends, another one ramps up. When our doors reopen on August 29th, we’ll have a whole new line of fresh, fun, and fantastic opportunities for our members. Keep reading for the latest news and events!

A Quick Summer Recap:
The New Horizons Club Explores New Opportunities
This month our New Horizons Club had the chance to explore the Morningside College campus, as well as the real world of construction and retail. On top of learning the various ways to make money, they also learned how to save it; this month’s programming also included tips and strategies for money management.
Our Torch Club/Jr. New Horizons Members Step Up
We’re proud to have several energetic younger Club members who volunteer because it’s fun! We can’t say enough about these kids. They’ve been a huge help in organizing, helping run games, helping put games and supplies away, and being a positive force in and outside of our Club.
Local Elks Club Donates Books and Prizes
We’re so grateful for the members of our local Elks Club who have generously donated much-needed books and prizes for our Brain Gain program. This is the second year in a row we’ve been blessed with their thoughtfulness. Our Club Members were grateful to be able to take the books home at the end of the summer to continue their learning. It’s because of organizations like the Elks that we can offer such amazing programs and opportunities for Siouxland youth.
Old Navy Employees Roll Up Their Shirtsleeves
All summer long, the staff at our local Old Navy volunteered to help with our Brain Gain program. As one of our strongest community partners, Old Navy allowed our kids to explore every facet of its industry, from the fashion show held at the Club where our Torch Club members modeled the latest fall fashions to giving our New Horizons Club members greet and help customers during the August 5th tax-free weekend. Our club members now have a real taste of what it’s like to work in the retail and fashion industry!
Want to Make a Difference?
There are so many ways to brighten the future for Siouxland boys and girls. Donate a new or gently used item on our wish list. Help our members with their homework assignments. Build a rewarding career and become a mainstay in the lives of hundreds of kids. Host a Blue Jeans for Blue Doors day at your office. And, of course, get your ticket to our Steak Dinner and Steer Auction. You’ll feel great no matter what you do because we always notice and appreciate your time, efforts, and donations.
The Club will be closed Monday, September 5th for Labor Day. We will also be closed on Friday, September 9th in preparation for our Steak Dinner on the 10th.
Thanks for keeping us on your reading list, and keep following us on Facebook. You never know what fun we’ll post about next!
