This is our first official blog post as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland! Our summer session is off to a blazing start, and we’ve never been happier to be able to serve all of Siouxland’s youth.
Below are snapshots of our busy month so far.
We cut ribbons.
Our ribbon cutting ceremony earlier this month included Rhonda Capron from the City Council and Wally Graffen from the Midwest Region of BGCA National as well as our own CPO Eldon Benson and Board President Jim Palmer. We had a great turnout and enjoyed marking our new era with coffee, refreshments, and tours of our expanded and remodeled facility. Thank you to all who came out and showed support on this big day.
We opened in grand fashion.
Our grand opening marked our open doors to all Siouxland kids, and we’ve doubled our average daily attendance! We’re happy to report that our newly welcomed girls are settling in and making the club their own; in fact, it’s as if they’ve always been here. So far Legos and Chess have become quite the hit. We can’t believe the incredible projects we’ve seen so far.
We helped the Kiwanis Club.
A group of Club members helped the Kiwanis Club raise money to help children’s charities by participating in Peanut Day. Club members collected donations at the Morningside Wal-Mart and the Southern Hills Hy-Vee and gave out peanuts as a thank you.
The Kiwanis Club distributes its Peanut Day contributions to several children’s charities, including the Boys & Girls Clubs. Our kids loved being able to pay it forward for other likeminded non-profit organizations.
We explored nature in Sioux Falls.
Club members traveled to Sioux Falls this month to explore the Butterfly House, Marine Cove, and Sertoma Discovery Park. This fun day trip included plenty of animal interaction; from petting sharks and stingrays to being used as a landing strip for butterflies, our kids had so much fun!
We love Summer Brain Gain.
In partnership with Old Navy, we’re hosting a daily Summer Brain Gain, a program designed to help fight summer learning loss. Old Navy is generously supplying funds, supplies, and volunteers to support the program. Here’s to learning something new every day!
We keep welcoming new members.
Want to join in the fun? Join us for Member’s Orientations! During the summer, we’ll meet on Wednesdays at 8:30am beginning June 22nd.
We have so much more to come!
