The weather is warming up in Sioux City, and so is the Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland. As we ramp up to being a full-fledged partner of the Boys & Girls Club this May, we have a lot of great news and programs in store for all of our local youth. Keep reading for details on Club events, news, and special mentions!

First, a Few Words of Thanks

We are immensely grateful to the following businesses for their generosity to our club members. If you happen to be walking through their doors, please continue to share our gratitude for their sponsorship, donations, and commitment to our local, growing community. Every bit helps!

  • Barnes & Noble: The Southern Hills Mall location provided donations of games, stuffed animals, action figures and other items we use for event prizes. Thanks for generously sharing in the fun!
  • FedEx: Provided the PB&J snack for our Club members last week. It was a hit with the kids.
  • Buffalo Wild Wings: Buffalo Wild Wings treated a group of “Citizens of the Month” to a great meal, and they also donated 10% of the proceeds from all the meals during its Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland fundraiser this past weekend (April 13th).
  • Five Star Awards and More:  Every month, the talented staff of Five Star Awards and More create and donate the two awesome medals we give to our Citizens of the Month. It means so much to us, and especially the kids!

Save the Date: Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland Ribbon Cutting on June 6th

We are so excited to expand our membership to the girls of Sioux City! On June 6th at 8am, we officially become The Boys & Girls Club’s newest full charter member. Mark your calendar for our ribbon cutting ceremony on June 6th at 8:00 – 9:30am and join local businesses, Club board members, the regional BGCA representative and the President of Boys & Girls Clubs of America for this amazing event.

All that said, we are NOW taking membership applications for summer programming for both boys and girls! Applications are available in the front office.  We’re happy to report that membership will remain just $10 per year. Want more information? New Member Orientations are Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm.

Keep those calendars out: The excitement just keeps on coming!

The First Tee

We are currently registering Club members for our ‘The First Tee’ golfing group. This activity is limited to six Club members, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland will pay all registration fees.  For more details and to get an application, please contact Mary Anne at 258-5545 or maryanne@boysclubofsiouxcity.org  This is a great opportunity for our club members!

Earth Day Celebration Park Clean Up

Our club was proud to adopt Grandview Park in our local clean-up efforts for Earth Day. Our boys had a great time, some even saying it was “the best field trip ever.” Even on top of that, kids playing in the park saw how much fun our club members were having cleaning and joined us in the clean-up efforts! Awesome stuff!

3rd Annual Heroes Game

The 3rd Annual Heroes Game between the 185th Air National Guard and the 113 CAV Army National Guard will be played Thursday April 28th. This free event includes complimentary walking tacos and great seats to a great family-friendly event. We would love to see you all there!

Games-O-Rama Tournament:

We returned from this past weekend’s Games-O-Rama tournament in Dubuque with many wonderful memories. Fifteen clubs from Iowa, Nebraska, and Illinois turned out to compete in overnight games tournaments that ranged from Connect 4 to Dodgeball. Our kids had a blast and finished 4th place overall at the tournament.

We need you!

  • Do you have an interest in biking and bike maintenance? We need a few great volunteers to run our summer biking program.
  • We’re also looking for Summer Youth Development Staff to work Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm and provide fun, guidance, and support to some of the most amazing kids in our area.
  • Our remodeled facility needs a Building/Facilities Supervisor! Will it be you? (Or someone you know?)

Please help us spread the word about these amazing opportunities. Applications are available at the club. You can also call us and ask for Velvet at (712) 258-5545 or email velvet@boysclubofsiouxcity.org for more information.

Thank you for everything, Sioux City! Here’s to another great month!
