Boys Club Welcomes Our New Director of Operations Velvet Jeratowski
Velvet Jeratowski has hit the ground running as the Director of Operations at Boys Club of Sioux City. Velvet joins the Boys Club with a fairly diverse background that includes law enforcement, social work, after school programming, operations and fundraising. This all means she’s a pretty great fit for us and for her new position, especially as she will be responsible for overseeing program implementation, staff and volunteer development, as well as securing community partnerships.
Velvet has a lot of energy, which she happily puts into her work and many hobbies like community volunteering, health and fitness, cooking, and–her favorite– spending time with her family and new grand-daughter!
We all know that a job like this doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Please join us in welcoming Velvet, her husband, Mark, and their family into our Boys Club of Sioux City community.
Torch Club Raises $500 in Funds and Splits the Effort
Each year Boys Club Torch Club members volunteer in the community and hold in-club special events to raise money for those less fortunate. This year our Torch Club chose two charities, the Siouxland Soup Kitchen and the Sioux City Gospel Mission Men with Children’s Shelter. On Wednesday, January 13th, a group of Torch Club members visited each charity, spoke with staff about the importance of each organization’s role in the community, and then presented a check for $250 to each organization.
After the check presentations, Torch Club was treated to a matinee of The Force Awakens.
It’s hard to believe that Boys Club basketball season is almost over. Come cheer on the team during each of their Saturday games this month and help them end the season on a high note. All games are held at the South Sioux City Middle School.
- January 23rd at 11am (middle Court 1)
- January 30th at 11am (middle Court 1)
Through the generous donation of funds, equipment and time from Shaun Broyhill, 22 of our 3rd, 4th & 5th grade Boys Club members are able to participate in a twice-weekly Tynker computer coding program. This program gives our Club members the opportunity to learn real world skills while having fun. This amazing opportunity for our Club members also pays off in a different way; completion of the program earns them an evening at the Explorer’s season opening game!
Calendar of events and schedule changes now available here.
A Note of Thanks
Every month we are grateful for our hardworking volunteers, generous donations, and inspiring Club members. A special thanks goes to the Briar Cliff University Serving without Boundaries class for entertaining Club Members with several fun games on Tuesday, January 12th.
